Moving by impulse
That's something I'm guilty of. I moved countries and states by impulse, and it's the exact thing you would expect. Difficult and disappointing at first, but ends up being the best decision you could've made. I wrote a whole short story about my move from IL to UT by the California Zephyr train, but I decided I was revealing a bit too many details.
One good thing about moving to a new place is finding new people. Some people have difficulty with that, and I do too as someone with social anxiety, but I still end up being adopted into a family-like friend group. That happened in most of the places I lived. Another challenging part is finding a job. I'm not one of those digital nomads, so it's very important to find a way to generate income ASAP. That also always worked out.
But the thing that stuck with me throughout all of my journeys is the kindness of the people I've met. It was enough kindness that even with everything that's going on, my faith in humanity will keep on living. And every now and then I try to pass the good act on to somebody else in need.
